Karen Berger is nicknamed the ” Queen of Cigars” and for good reason! Karen’s career in cigars started when she studied business administration, in 1998 to earn money whilst she studied Karen got a job as a torcedora at Esteli Cigars S.A. which was where she met, fell in love and married Enrique Berger, Known as Don Kiki, the factory owner.
Karen who’s a native Estreli in Nicaragua is proud of her roots in the cigar factory, rolling cigars, it gave her a unique insight into the whole production process, step by step. Don Kiki was not only Karen’s husband but also her mentor in the industry. Don Kiki started his own business in Nicaragua in the 90s with the launch of his own cigar factory later Don Kiki Launched his own range of cigars aptly named “Don Kiki”
Sadly in 2014 Don Kiki passed away but Karen was determined to carry on his legacy and threw herself into all aspects of the business, expanding the DonKiki cigar range and in 2016 Karen Launched her own range name “K” by Karen Berger.
Karen is passionate about remaining fully involved in the steps of the cigar process to ensure quality, which may explain the ratings her cigars receive, in order to remain so involved Karen splits her time between the US and Esteli. Karen is a force to be reckoned with which was recognised in 2021 when she was named “Tobacco Business Women of the Year and Karen doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.
